Event Description:

A Day in the Life…..on the Appalachian Trail

Picture yourself on the longest hiking footpath in the world! Your home on your back, a well worn path ahead of you, and beautiful scenery surrounding you. Starting right here in North Georgia at Brasstown Bald, all 2,190 miles of the Appalachian Trail has been compacted down to a bite size adventure for your ultimate mini-AT experience!

Immerse yourself in the behind the scenes of the “AT” by….

*Exploring our AT Base Camp Village
*Watching an Emmy nominated AT film in our Mountain Top Theater
*Discovering the equipment and supplies essential for hiking
*Taking a guided hike on the 0.6 mile mini-AT
*Visiting a mock backcountry campsite
*Submersing yourself into Georgia AT History at the mobile exhibit
*Meeting AT trail stewards, thru-hikers, and enthusiasts

Experience the magic of the trail at Brasstown Bald!  2018 is an extra special year as we will be celebrating the 50th ANNIVERSARY OF THE NATIONAL TRAILS SYSTEM ACT. The Appalachian Trail is one of 11 National Scenic Trails in the system and the Chattahoochee National Forests is home to all 79 miles of the AT in Georgia.

“Trail Magic: The Grandma Gatewood Story”
11:30 AM and 1:30 PM

Gripping and inspirational, this Emmy nominated “Best Historical Documentary” will have two special showings in our Mountain Top Theater. With no real equipment and no real experience, the spirit of the first woman to hike the AT back in the 1950’s lives on! Arrive early for a seat.
